Directions

A vast 180-hectare national park in western Tokyo built on a former US military base, offering cycling paths, cosmos and tulip fields, a Japanese garden, and enormous open lawns that are genuinely rare in Tokyo. The seasonal flower displays — cosmos in autumn, tulips in spring, sunflowers in summer — are world-class in scale. Bicycle rentals are available on-site. It requires a trip to Tachikawa on the Chuo Line, about 40 minutes from Shinjuku, but the scale and greenery reward the journey.
