The Palace of Fine Arts is one of the most beautiful buildings in the Americas — an Art Nouveau exterior giving way to an Art Deco interior — and the museum floors house monumental murals by Rivera, Orozco, Siqueiros, and Tamayo that alone justify the visit. The rotating exhibitions on upper floors are consistently high quality, often drawing major international shows. The building is perpetually sinking into the soft lakebed beneath the city, which adds a surreal historical layer to the experience. Avoid the ground-floor tourist traps and head straight upstairs to the murals.
