Set in a gorgeous Bosphorus-side mansion in Emirgan, this private museum holds an exceptional collection of Ottoman calligraphy, manuscripts, and paintings alongside world-class temporary exhibitions — past shows have included Picasso, Rodin, and Dali. The sculpture garden and views of the Bosphorus are spectacular. Getting here requires a taxi or bus from the center, but the journey along the European shore is part of the pleasure. The on-site Müzedechanga restaurant is one of Istanbul's best.
