The Red Fort, or Lal Qila, is the massive 17th-century Mughal fortress-palace of Shah Jahan and a UNESCO World Heritage Site where India's prime minister addresses the nation each Independence Day. Wander the red sandstone ramparts, the Diwan-i-Aam, and the marble pavilions. It is hot and crowded midday and some interiors are worn, so go early and consider the evening sound-and-light show.
