Known forsouth Beijingworking classauthenticcommunity park
A beloved working-class neighborhood park in the southern part of the city, Taoranting is where real Beijingers come to dance, sing Peking opera, play chess, and practice calligraphy with water brushes on the pavement. The park centers on a historic pavilion dating to the Yuan dynasty and several small lakes good for winter ice skating. It's decidedly unglamorous but deeply authentic — you'll see more genuine local life here than in most tourist-facing parks. Tourists rarely venture this far south, which is exactly the point.
