A well-preserved network of traditional alleyways (hutongs) radiating off a lively pedestrian lane lined with indie cafés, snack stalls, and small shops. The main Nanluoguxiang strip is touristy, but duck into the quieter side hutongs — Mao'er Hutong, Banchang Hutong — to see genuine courtyard-house neighborhoods still inhabited by Beijingers. Avoid weekend afternoons when the main lane becomes uncomfortably packed.
