Frequently asked questions

What are the opening hours for the Upper Belvedere?
The Upper Belvedere is open daily 09:00–18:00, with extended hours to 19:00 from 15 July through 31 August. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing. The museum is open seven days a week, including public holidays (except Dec 24–25).
Is the Belvedere garden free to enter?
Yes — the main Baroque garden connecting the two palaces is free and open to the public from approximately 06:30 until dusk. The Alpine Garden and the Privy Garden (Kammergarten, accessed via Lower Belvedere ticket) have separate conditions or fees.
Where is Klimt's 'The Kiss' displayed?
'The Kiss' (1907–08) is displayed in the permanent collection of the Upper Belvedere. It is the single most visited room in the complex and can be very crowded between 11:00 and 14:00, especially on summer weekends. Booking the 09:00 opening slot on a weekday gives the quietest viewing.
How do I get to the Belvedere by public transport?
The easiest option is Tram D to the 'Schloss Belvedere' stop, about 150 m from the Upper Belvedere entrance. Alternatively, take U1 to Südtiroler Platz-Hauptbahnhof and walk ~10–15 minutes or ride one stop on Tram D. Tram 71 stops directly opposite the Lower Belvedere entrance.
Is there parking at the Belvedere?
There is no on-site visitor parking at either palace. The nearest public garage is under Palais Schwarzenberg, adjacent to the Lower Belvedere. Belvedere ticket-holders receive discounted parking (up to 6 hours) at the BIP Garages at Palais Schwarzenberg and Schwarzenbergplatz — note this discount does not apply via parking apps.
How much does a Belvedere ticket cost?
Upper Belvedere: €19.50 online / €21 at the door for adults; €15.50 for seniors (65+) and students under 26; free for under-19s. Lower Belvedere: €16.50 online / €18 at the door for adults. Combo tickets and a Belvedere annual pass are also available. All prices include VAT.
Can I visit the Belvedere on a Monday?
Yes — the Upper and Lower Belvedere are open every day of the week, including Mondays. Only Belvedere 21 (the contemporary art venue) is closed on Mondays, except on public holidays.
Do I need separate tickets for the Upper and Lower Belvedere?
Yes — the Upper and Lower Belvedere are ticketed separately, though combo tickets covering both are sold online and at the door. Belvedere 21 requires its own ticket (€12 adult). A timed entry slot is required for both the Upper and Lower Belvedere.
