A 6km clifftop path linking Bondi, Tamarama, Bronte, Clovelly and Coogee beaches — free, spectacular, and the single best half-day in Sydney's east. Allow 2-3 hours one way with swim and coffee stops. Caveat: there's almost no shade, so summer middays are brutal; carry water and sunscreen.

Frequently asked questions
- What is Sculpture by the Sea?
- A free outdoor sculpture exhibition along the Bondi-Tamarama stretch, usually running late October into November. It's wonderful but the path becomes shoulder-to-shoulder — go at 7am or embrace the crowd.
- Can I do just part of the walk?
- The Bondi to Bronte stretch is the highlight reel — about 40 minutes covering Icebergs, the sandstone cliffs and Tamarama. If time is tight, do that section and bus it from Bronte.
- Is there food and water along the route?
- Yes — cafes and kiosks at Bondi, Bronte, Clovelly and Coogee, plus water fountains at most beaches. Bronte's cafe strip is the best mid-walk lunch stop.
- Is the walk safe at night?
- It's lit in patches but not throughout, and clifftop sections have real drops. Sunrise and sunset are magic; full dark isn't recommended, mainly for footing rather than crime.
- Which direction should I walk it?
- Bondi to Coogee is the classic direction — you start with the postcard view and finish somewhere with great casual food. If you want the sun behind you for photos, morning walkers should go south from Bondi.
- How do I get back from Coogee?
- Buses 372, 373 or 374 run from Coogee toward Central and the city every few minutes at peak times — tap on with Opal or a contactless card. There's no train line to either end, so buses are your friend.
- Can I swim along the way?
- Absolutely — that's the point. Bronte has a lovely ocean pool, Clovelly is a calm concrete-edged bay great for snorkelling, and Coogee's Wylie's Baths (small entry fee) is a gorgeous old tidal pool. Swim between the flags at the surf beaches.
- How long is the Bondi to Coogee walk and how hard is it?
- About 6km with a fair number of stairs and undulations — most people do it in 2 to 3 hours one way. It's manageable for anyone reasonably mobile, but it's not pram- or wheelchair-friendly the whole way.
