Multiple beach sections cater to swimmers, surfers, and families, and the nearby Cronulla strip has solid cafes and fish and chips. It's a long trip from the CBD but the train ride is easy and the beach rewards the journey.

The jewel at the tip of the northern beaches peninsula, Palm Beach is a stunning double-sided beach with ocean surf on one side and the calm Pittwater lagoon on the other — genuinely one of the most beautiful beach settings in Australia. The lighthouse walk and views from Barrenjoey Headland are unmissable. It's a 90-minute drive or bus from the CBD, so plan for a full day.
