Housed in three restored shophouses on Pagoda Street, this museum reconstructs the cramped cubicle living conditions of early Chinese immigrants with striking authenticity. Wax figures, personal artefacts, and oral history recordings make the experience visceral rather than sterile. It is small enough to do thoroughly in 90 minutes and is far less crowded than the street outside. Skip the gift shop and head to Chinatown Complex hawker centre afterwards.
