One of only three remaining historic Japantowns in the United States, San Jose's version is a walkable, authentic neighborhood centered on Jackson Street with independent restaurants, mochi shops, a Buddhist temple, and community murals. It is best experienced on foot, grazing through spots like Shuei-Do Manju Shop and browsing Marukai grocery. The annual Obon Festival in summer is a highlight. It is a neighborhood, not a theme park, so temper expectations for a polished tourist experience.
