Shinsekai is a retro working-class district built in 1912 to evoke Paris and New York, now a wonderfully gritty pocket of old Osaka packed with kushikatsu joints, pachinko parlors, and vintage signage. Tsutenkaku Tower at its center offers city views and a quirky Billiken shrine on the observation deck. The neighborhood is genuinely lived-in and slightly rough around the edges — that's the point — but it's perfectly safe and one of the most atmospheric corners of the city.
