Built on the site of a former oil refinery, Parque Bicentenario is a remarkable urban transformation — a massive modern park with botanical gardens, a large lake, cycling paths, and even a small natural history museum. It's one of the greenest and most thoughtfully designed parks in the city, yet remains largely unknown to visitors and even many chilangos outside the north. The botanical garden is genuinely impressive and free. The park is far north of the tourist center, which keeps it blissfully uncrowded.
