The 2 Best Beaches in Macau

Macau's biggest natural beach — famous for its black-grey sand — on Coloane's east coast, with free BBQ pits, a beachside park and Fernando's, the legendary Portuguese restaurant. Locals actually come here. Caveat: the water is often murky and swimming is average; come for the atmosphere, grilled chicken and sea air, not Instagram-blue water.

Cheoc Van is Coloane's smaller, more sheltered beach with calmer waters than Hac Sa, making it popular with families and swimmers. The beach has basic facilities including changing rooms, a public pool nearby, and a few casual eateries along the promenade. The sand is reasonably clean and the setting feels genuinely local and unhurried. Caveat: the beach is quite small and can feel crowded on weekends and public holidays.
