Do I need to check the tide?

Absolutely — at high tide the water reaches the cliffs and the coves and arches get cut off or disappear entirely. Check a tide chart and aim for low or falling tide so you can actually walk among the sea stacks. This is the single most important tip for this beach.

How much is parking at El Matador?

The small bluff-top lot charges around $8-10 for the day, valid until sunset. It's tiny and fills early on weekends and at sunset. There's limited free street parking along PCH, but those spots go fast and the highway shoulder is narrow, so be careful.
