Perfectly, they're all clustered together. The museum sits on the slope between Topkapı's first courtyard and Gülhane Park, so you can chain all three in a day. Do the museum when Topkapí's queues peak, then wander into the park.

What's the must-see object?

The Alexander Sarcophagus, a 4th-century-BC marble tomb carved with astonishingly lifelike battle and hunt scenes that still show traces of original paint. It alone justifies the visit. The Sidon sarcophagi around it are nearly as stunning.

Is it worth it if I'm not into archaeology?

Be honest with yourself, it's dense with antiquities and reads like a serious museum, not a spectacle. But even casual visitors are usually wowed by the Alexander Sarcophagus and enjoy the calm after Topkapı's crush. Give it an hour and see.

Is any of it under renovation?

The complex has had long-running gallery renovations, so a wing or two may be closed or reorganized when you visit. Enough is always open to make it worthwhile, but don't expect every hall to be accessible.

What are the hours and closed days?

Open daily, roughly 09:00-18:30, with last ticket around 18:00. Unlike Topkapı next door, there's no weekly closure day, so it's a handy option on a Tuesday when the palace is shut.

What are the three museums?

The main Archaeology Museum (classical antiquities), the Museum of the Ancient Orient (Mesopotamian, Egyptian, pre-Islamic Near East), and the Tiled Kiosk (Çinili Köşk) of Ottoman ceramics. They share one site and one ticket, just below Topkapı's first court.

Why is it so much quieter than the other sights?

Simply because it's underrated and overshadowed by its blockbuster neighbors. That's the gift, you get first-class antiquities with room to breathe. It's one of the few big-hitters in Sultanahmet where you won't be fighting a crowd.
