While MNAC as a whole is excluded, its Romanesque collection deserves a standalone mention as one of the finest in the world — rescued Pyrenean church frescoes reconstructed in situ inside the Palau Nacional. The sheer scale and preservation quality of these 11th–12th century works is extraordinary and genuinely unmissable. Caveat: the full museum is large; budget at least two hours and wear comfortable shoes.
