The dedicated museum of Parisian history occupies two interconnected Renaissance hôtels particuliers in the heart of the Marais and is entirely free to enter. Reconstructed period rooms, archaeological finds from Lutèce, and artifacts from the Revolution make for a genuinely rich narrative of the city across 2,000 years. It's one of the best free cultural experiences in Paris and recently completed a major renovation. The courtyard garden alone is worth a detour.
