A Gilded Age mansion turned intimate art museum housing Old Masters by Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Velázquez in genuinely gorgeous period rooms. The scale is human and unhurried — you can stand alone in front of a Holbein without a crowd. Note that the main mansion is undergoing renovation and the collection is currently shown at Frick Madison, a Breuer building on 75th Street, which is a very different but still worthwhile experience.
