La Marqueta

A historic covered market under the Park Avenue rail viaduct in East Harlem, La Marqueta has served the Puerto Rican and Latino community since the 1930s and has seen a partial revival with local vendors, food producers, and community events. It's not as packed as its mid-century heyday but remains a culturally significant and genuinely local spot for Caribbean produce, prepared foods, and artisan goods. Visit on weekends when it's most active and pair it with a walk through El Barrio.
