One of Europe's oldest fine arts academies doubles as a superb museum with works by Goya, Rubens, Zurbarán, and Velázquez hung in a grand 18th-century palace. Goya was a member here and the collection of his works is exceptional. It sits steps from the Puerta del Sol yet remains largely overlooked by tourists. The building's grand staircase and painted ceilings are themselves worth the modest entry fee.
