Trafalgar Square is London's great civic plaza, anchored by Nelson's Column, four bronze lions and fountains, with the National Gallery rising behind it. It hosts festivals, protests and the annual Christmas tree, and the ever-changing Fourth Plinth sculpture is worth a look. It is always crowded and there is little shade or seating.
