KL's telecom tower on a forested hilltop, with an observation deck and a glass Sky Box for that floating-over-the-city photo. The views actually beat the Petronas deck because you can see the Twin Towers in your shot. A solid choice, though the hilltop location needs a shuttle or short walk.

Frequently asked questions

Can I walk to KL Tower from the monorail?
Yes, Bukit Nanas monorail station is the closest, about a 10 to 15 minute walk that ends with an uphill stretch. Alternatively the tower is a nice bonus if you're already visiting the KL Forest Eco Park right next door.
Is the Sky Box worth the extra cost?
If you want that dramatic glass-floor photo, yes, it's the main reason to upgrade. If you just want the view, the standard observation deck is cheaper and still excellent.
Is KL Tower or Petronas Towers better for views?
For the view itself, KL Tower wins, because you can actually see the Petronas Twin Towers in your photos, which you obviously can't from inside them. Petronas has the more iconic building and the Skybridge, so many visitors do both.
How do I get up to KL Tower from the entrance?
The tower sits on a hill, and there's a fairly steep road up from the main gate. There's a free shuttle buggy that runs from the base, or you can walk it in about 10 minutes if you don't mind the climb.
How much are KL Tower tickets?
For non-Malaysians the observation deck starts around RM33, and the Sky Deck with the glass Sky Box is roughly RM78. Malaysians pay noticeably less, so bring ID if you qualify.
What's the difference between the Observation Deck and the Sky Deck?
The Observation Deck is the enclosed, air-conditioned level with windows. The Sky Deck is open-air and higher up, and includes the Sky Box, a glass cube you stand in for the floating-over-the-city shot, which is why it costs more.
What are KL Tower's opening hours?
It's open daily from 9 AM to 10 PM, with the observation deck and Sky Deck running the same hours. Last admission is usually around 30 to 45 minutes before closing.
When is the best time to go up KL Tower?
Sunset is the sweet spot, you get the city in daylight, the sky changing color, and then the lights switching on. Just expect the Sky Box queue to be longest then, so arrive with time to spare.
