Israel's official Holocaust memorial and museum is one of the most important and emotionally powerful institutions in the world, with a stunning triangular building by Moshe Safdie cutting through the hillside. The permanent exhibition traces the Holocaust chronologically through personal testimonies, artifacts, and photographs with extraordinary curatorial care. Allow three to four hours minimum and come prepared emotionally — this is not a casual visit. The Children's Memorial and Hall of Names are especially affecting.
