Tempelhofer Feld is Berlin's largest city park and the world's largest inner-city open space — 355 hectares on the former Tempelhof Airport site. Free and car-free, its concrete runways host cyclists, skaters, kite landboarders, and picnickers against a sweeping, treeless horizon unlike anywhere else in the city.

Frequently asked questions

Is there any shade or food available inside the park?
Tempelhofer Feld is almost entirely open with very little shade, so bring sun protection and water in summer. Snack stands, coffee bikes, and seasonal food stalls operate near the main entrances, particularly around Tempelhofer Damm. Free public toilets are available on site.
Is Tempelhofer Feld accessible for wheelchair users?
Yes — all four main entrances are barrier-free, and the paved runway paths are flat and wheelchair-accessible. Most toilet facilities are wheelchair-accessible, and reserved disabled parking spaces are available on the public road near the Columbiadamm and Herrfurthstraße entrances.
What activities can I do at Tempelhofer Feld?
The former runways are used for cycling, inline skating, skateboarding, kite landboarding, and jogging. The field also has a mini-golf course, community gardens (Stadtacker), a circus tent (Cabuwazi), beach volleyball, football pitches, basketball courts, and a dedicated skatepark (Vogelfreiheit). Bike and go-kart hire is available at the Tempelhofer Damm entrance.
Is there an entry fee for Tempelhofer Feld?
No — admission is completely free, every day of the year. The park is a public open space managed by Grün Berlin GmbH. Guided tours focusing on nature or history may carry a separate charge.
Can I barbecue at Tempelhofer Feld?
Yes, but only in the three designated BBQ areas. Grills must be raised at least 20 cm off the ground. Barbecuing anywhere outside the marked zones is prohibited under park regulations.
How do I get to Tempelhofer Feld by public transport?
The easiest option is S-Bhf Tempelhof (S41/S42/S47), about 3 minutes' walk to the main Tempelhofer Damm entrance. U6 stops at U-Bhf Tempelhof and Paradestraße also serve the park. Parking is extremely limited, so public transport is strongly recommended.
Are dogs allowed in the park?
Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash everywhere except the designated off-leash dog exercise areas. Certain meadow sections are also fenced off as bird-protection zones where dogs are not permitted.
What are the opening hours, and do they change by season?
Yes, hours shift every month to track daylight: from 07:30–17:00 in January/December up to 06:00–22:30 in June/July. Gates are locked at closing time, but you can always exit via turnstiles at the main entrances. Check tempelhoferfeld.de/eingang for any gate closures due to construction.
