Beneath the Gothic Quarter lies one of Europe's most impressive underground Roman ruins — a 4,000 square metre archaeological site you walk through via glass walkways. The museum traces Barcelona from its Roman founding as Barcino through the medieval period. It's genuinely thrilling to stand above a 2,000-year-old winery or laundry. Caveat: the above-ground exhibition rooms are less compelling than the underground circuit.
